Museums of Interesting Things

A museum generally makes you think of a dull, uninteresting place meant only for children on field trips. There are some though, which will keep you visiting over and over again, thanks to their delightful collection of objects from all over the world.

Dime museums are a great example of a museum with lots of interesting things to see. These museums mainly showcased bizarre, often grotesque objects like two-headed creatures, and also held intriguing live performances. These are the places you could go to, to see a bearded lady or a goat boy! Before there were movie theaters, a dime museum was the place for entertainment that did not burn a hole in your pocket. Visit any of the ‘Ripley’s Believe It Or Not’ Museums and you will see what we mean.

Do not miss these too – the American Dime Museum, Baltimore, the Freakatorium, New York City, or the Museum of Jurassic Technology, Culver City, California. Next on our list of museums with interesting things are theme based ones, like the New Orleans Pharmacy Museum with its intimidating surgical instruments and medicine bottles, or the Museum of Pez Memorabilia in Burlingame, California, with over 500 Pez dispensers.

Visit the Cockroach Museum of Plano in Texas, if in the mood for looking at live and dead cockroaches, some even in costumes! Want to see more than 1,000 corkscrews under one roof? Go to the Corkscrew Museum in Provence, France. There are a number of other museums you could go to, where you can see stuff not normally showcased in museums anywhere in the world.
